Do you really want some sugar? Sugar has many harmful affects to the body, we all pretty much have heard that too much sugar is bad for us, right? Yes, sure we have, we’ve all heard that too much sugar contributes to weight gain and yuck mouth but what is too much sugar? Too much sugar is more than 6 tsps (25 grams ) for women and 9 tsps (38 grams) for men a day.
Too much sugar is much more dangerous than we were taught as kids. Did you know that too much sugar can age you? I did not know that, of course when we were kids who cared? Now that I am a woman of a certain age, I care! Around the age of 35 is when most women really start paying attention to their skin. Eating too much sugar weakens collagen and elastin in your skin. It’s one thing to not to care about your waist line but we generally care about our skin looking dull and wrinkly.
Still not convinced? I’ll give you another reason you may look at that candy side-eyed (too much sugar weakens our eyesight by the way) but I digress. Sugar is addicting! The more you have the more you want. The craving prompted by sugar is compared to those induced by cocaine and nicotine. Yup, sugar effects the brainwaves like opioids does, scary huh? The bottom line is, sugar is in just about everything so don’t even try cutting sugar completely out of your diet. However, you can easily limit your intake by cutting down on your sweets and reading your food labels. Try to stick to 6 tsps for women and 9 tsps for men a day.
The older we get our bodies does change and we become more aware as to what is going on in there. We can’t stop the aging process nonetheless, we can stop having too much sugar.
